The announcement of the Moravian-Silesian Region’s best waste sorting towns and municipalities was not only joy to the ears of the award-winning mayors, but also good news for nature. The average resident in the region recycled 70.9 kilograms of plastics, paper, glass and metals last year, which is 4.9 kilograms more per person than in the previous year! The region’s inhabitants are well above the Czech Republic average in sorting plastics and metals. People are best at sorting their waste in Kopřivnice, Dobrá, Milíkov and Nová Pláň. These municipalities came first in their categories divided up by number of inhabitants and were presented with the traditional Ceramic Bins award at Vítkovice Chateau, as well as financial rewards to fund the further development of proper waste management. The citizens of Chotěbuz also played a major role in the significant year-on-year improvement, which is why the municipality was awarded the title of "Breakthrough Performer of the Year".
The announcement also includes the "Ceramic Earphone”, a competition for the collection of small electrical appliances that is regularly held by the ASEKOL compliance scheme. And how did the towns and municipalities do in this category this year? In the Ceramic Earphone competition, the town of Hlučín, the municipality of Zátor and the municipality of Krasov took first place in their categories according to the number of inhabitants. In the best of them, Zátor, the average citizen disposed of 22.2 kilos of small electrical appliances last year.
