Třebíč launches the project "Give electronics a second chance". Working appliances will help people and animals

Starting in September, residents of the Třebíč region will have the opportunity to participate in a new project aimed at giving unwanted electrical appliances a new lease of life. This is a joint project implemented by ESKO-T, the ASEKOL compliance scheme and the Vysočina Region, which will cover the costs of an inspection technician to test the appliances people hand in. The aim of the pilot project "Give electronics a second chance" is to prolong the life of the appliances while also funding the local shelter for abandoned animals.

Anyone interested can bring along small electrical appliances to the Second Chance Centre, located in the ESKO-T complex in Hrotovická ulice in Třebíč. “The devices will then be checked by a technician and will be available to visitors of our centre for a voluntary contribution," said Pavlína Buršíková, director of ESKO-T. The pilot project is mainly for small household appliances such as hairdryers, irons, blenders, kettles, toasters, small handheld vacuum cleaners, radios, or hobby tools. "We want to give people the chance to hand in working appliances that are cluttering up the home, perhaps because they’ve bought a newer version, but the old one can still be used. In the first phase, we’ll be focusing on things that can be easily tested and offered for use again, such as in starter flats or shared student housing. As these are second-hand appliances, we can’t guarantee how long they will work for, nor will they be covered by any warranty," Buršíková added. She says that all the proceeds will go to support the shelter in Třebíč for abandoned animals waiting for a new home.

Pavel Řehoř, the Vysočina Region Councillor for Forestry, Water Management, Agriculture and Environment, concludes: “I’m delighted that the Vysočina Region has played a financial part in the pilot Give Electronics a Second Chance project and is thus helping to reduce the amount of waste by enabling electrical appliances to be reused, while at the same time helping some people in need or in a difficult financial situation."

Appliances can be handed in at the Second Chance Centre in Třebíč, which is open every Tuesday and Thursday between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

If you have any unwanted appliances lying around at home, don't hesitate to join in with this project!  ☺️
