We are pleased to be the general partner of the 20th ASSEMBLY of the Union of Towns and Municipalities of the Czech Republic, currently taking place in Plzeň on 29-30 May. Hundreds of representatives of towns, municipalities and districts from all over the country will meet at this year's Assembly to evaluate the Union's activities since the last Assembly, set new priorities for the future and approve the draft of the new Union Statutes. Friday will be devoted to a meeting and subsequent discussion with state leaders. The President of the Republic, the President of the Senate, the Prime Minister, ministers and other representatives of the state administration are invited.
The Union of Towns and Municipalities of the Czech Republic has long been a key partner in promoting the interests of towns and municipalities across the Czech Republic. It was founded in 1989 as a non-political and voluntary organisation that brings together municipalities and towns of all sizes. However, its history dates back to 1907, when its predecessor, the Union of Czech Towns in the Kingdom of Bohemia, was founded.
The Union is a partner for government and parliamentary political representation. It plays a part in the development of legislation, draws attention to the impact of proposed measures on towns and municipalities and supports their development. Since 2004, the Union has been a compulsory commenting point, and since 2005 it has been in regular talks with the government at least once a year. Its activities are based on the active cooperation of mayors, mayors and councillors from all over the Czech Republic.
