OEZ supports ecology by collecting electrical waste during ECO WEEK: employees collected 566 kg!

During June, OEZ held an environmentally-focused collection event called ECO WEEK. The event was held in cooperation with the ASEKOL compliance scheme and OEZ s.r.o. and aimed to motivate employees to properly dispose of end-of-life electrical appliances while helping to protect the environment. OEZ has long emphasised the importance of sustainability and minimising the environmental impact of its operations.

During ECO WEEK, employees actively got involved in collecting end-of-life electrical appliances, sorted electrical waste and took part in educational activities focused on recycling and the circular economy. There were also themed competitions and educational quizzes designed to raise awareness of the importance of the proper way to sort end-of-life electrical equipment.

And what were the results? A total of 566 kilograms of end-of-life electrical equipment was collected and will be professionally recycled. This activity had a measurable environmental benefit. When converted into individual indicators through an LCA analysis, recycling the WEEE could have saved, for example:

  • 5,27 kg SO₂ (acidification of the environment, or acidification potential)
  • 0,43 tuny CO₂ (greenhouse gas emissions over 100 years)
  • 1,35 MWh of energy
  • 97,77 llitres of fuel
  • 0,31 tonnes of primary raw materials
  • 52,41 m³ of water

To give you a better idea: in the case of water savings, this is the equivalent of 704 showers or the fuel needed to drive 1,437 kilometres in a conventional car.

Radka Makarová from the OEZ s.r.o. internal communication department had this to say about the event:

"We’re delighted that our colleagues have shown interest and taken an active approach to sustainability. It proves that even a simple step such as handing over old equipment can have concrete positive results. Thank you to everyone who got involved.”

Daniel Šafář, ASEKOL Sales and Marketing Director, added:

“Our cooperation with OEZ has long been an example of a responsible corporate approach to sustainability and the circular economy. The results of the ECO WEEK collection are excellent and just go to show that even corporate schemes can have a real environmental impact.”

On behalf of ASEKOL, we are very grateful to our partner OEZ for the green approach it takes to the environment and to all the company’s employees for helping to achieve these excellent results.
