The Municipal Project of the Year 2025 competition has announced its winners. The awards ceremony celebrating the best municipal projects once again confirmed that the most innovative and practical solutions bringing real benefits to citizens are often created at the local level. The competition recognises municipalities and towns actively working to improve quality of life and community development.
The Municipal Project of the Year competition is organised by ProfiPress and the magazine Moderní obec, under the auspices of the Minister for Regional Development, in cooperation with the Committee on Regional Development, Public Administration and the Environment of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, the Committee on Public Administration and Regional Development of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, the Union of Towns and Municipalities of the Czech Republic, and the Association of Local Governments of the Czech Republic.
Social Project of the Year and Overall Winner: Šlapanice Day Care Centre
The Day Care Centre for seniors and people with mild Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia provides support to those with reduced self-sufficiency who cannot remain alone at home during the day. “What I appreciate most is that this facility exists and functions at all, as there was no such service available here or in the surrounding area,” said Radek Růžička, First Deputy Mayor of Šlapanice (district of Brno-venkov). The centre offers professional care and a pleasant social environment where clients can spend their time safely while developing their psychomotor skills. Meanwhile, their carers and family members can rest or attend to urgent matters. The town of Šlapanice built the day care centre in the unused ground-floor premises of a nursing home, using funding from the Integrated Regional Operational Programme. The centre is run by the Naděje company. The evaluation committee of the Municipal Project of the Year competition was also impressed by the fact that the service is open to all residents within the administrative district of Šlapanice. In the future, the town is considering establishing a residential respite care service. The project is managed by the leadership of the Town of Šlapanice, headed by Mayor Michaela Trněná.
This year’s edition took place in partnership with ASEKOL, which has long supported activities in the areas of sustainable development, modern waste management, and environmental innovation in public spaces.
“We are proud to be the main partner of a competition that promotes high-quality and inspiring projects at the municipal level. Municipalities and towns know their own needs best, and it is their initiatives that can drive positive change,” said Daniel Šafář, Sales Director of ASEKOL.
The Municipal Project of the Year 2025 once again demonstrated that well-designed and well-executed local projects can have a major impact on the long-term development of municipalities and the everyday lives of their residents. The recognised initiatives stand out not only for their community value but also for their innovative approach, efficient use of resources, and inspiring cooperation with local organisations, businesses, and the public. We would like to thank the organisers for the opportunity to share experiences, gain inspiration, and establish new partnerships with professionals and local government representatives from across the country. The event confirmed that well-managed local initiatives can deliver tangible results and help to promote sustainable development and a higher quality of life within communities.
